MY LIFE ON TWO WHEELS...

Yes, I ride!

Current Bikes: 2001 Ducati 750 SS, 1999 Honda VTR1000 Superhawk, 2005 Kawi ZX636
Past Bikes: 1996 & 1992 VFR 750, 1984 Honda Nighthawk 700, 1986 Honda Rebel

I've been riding street since 1993 when I started by taking the Motorcycle RiderCourse.
If you're thinking about riding, you have to start here!

My first bike was a Honda Rebel 250 which I rode for about a month, and then moved up to an '84 Honda Nighthawk 700S. The 'hawk kept me happy for about a year until my brother begged me to sell it to him.

That was when I submitted to the call of the VFR, and bought '92 for my birthday (I like to spoil myself...) I loved this bike, even though at 5'4 I could barely touch one toe down.

After about 53,000 miles on the '92, I sold it to my brother too and upgraded to another VFR (a 1996). Immediately after buying it (I don't really like red sport bikes...) I took it all apart and had it painted black and put custom silver graphics on it. It was one of a kind, and remarkable enough that people would recognize the Super Sarah VFR at events.

The miles were getting up there again (~45K) but Honda just kept making the VFR bigger and bulkier and I was itching for something lighter and simpler. After lusting after the Superhawk for a while, I stumbled across a 2001 Duc 750 SSport Dark in a dealership and could not stop drooling over it - I *had* to have it! This bike is Su-weeeet!! It's got the killer v-twin, is light and quick and wants to lean over forever. However, it was the wicked matte black paint that sold me!
About a year after I bought it, I was parked at a coffee shop and someone backed over it in a truck, flattening it and ruining the bodywork on both sides, ugh! Instead of replacing the bodywork I had it repaired and repainted R1 silver. It was almost like having a brand new bike, and the amore continued.

But you know how fickle we bikers are... A short time later, I was perusing motorcycles on eBay and stumbled upon a perfect specimen. Super low miles, aftermarket pipes, black... with no intention to actually bid on it, I contacted the seller to find out why on earth he would sell such a perfect bike for so little. Turned out he was a college age kid who was about to get married and move to a condo with not enough room to park both car and bike. The bike, it seems, had been pawned off on him by his boss and he wasn't really into it - hard to imagine a 1000cc V-twin endearing itself as a rider's first bike... We emailed back and forth a bit and I couldn't believe the low price and the fact that there was only one bidder - so naturaly I got lured into the adventure and placed a bid for what I would pay for it. An adventure it turned out to be! I won the bike which I came to find out was located in Virginia. So I took some time off work, and flew out to pick it up. The seller and his wife-to-be picked me up at the airport, took me to DMV to do the registration and then bid the bike and me adieu as I rolled out of the driveway to embark on a 4000+ mile ride back to CA. One of the most epic 2 weeks of my life! And I love the bike even more than I imagined.

It was the Kawasaki ZX636 press intro at Infineon that finally broke me of my stubborn anti-in-line-4 attitude. The bike was so smooth and quick and comfortable, expecially on the track. I had to have one.

Because I'm "vertically challenged" I hang out some times at the Short Biker's Home Page and discussion list. This is a good resource for my fellow "height impaired" motorcyclists. At 5'4 I'm the tallest allowed!

I also hang out with other Pacific Northwest cybergeek cyclists at WetLeather. (get it, Wet Leather, rains alot in the Pacific Northwest... biker's wear leather... HAH!) There's some really good cyber-socializing that occasionally includes discussions related to motorcycles! Lots of great parties and annual group training events too. The biggest WL event is the annual Greater Pacific Northwest Dryside Gather, affectionately known as "the Gather".

I used to lurk on the VFR list but not anymore since I'm no longer a VFR rider, awww.. Still run into friends from the list though!

Now I'm mainly associated with the L A Bikers, a group of motorcyclists in, you guessed it, the L.A. area! Unfortunately, living part time in Germany has cut into my social life in the U.S. quite a bit so even though I still consider myself an LA Biker, it's probably more of an 'honorary' status at this point.

Life as a Motorcycle Safety Professional...

Street riding isn't just a hobby for me. I'm an MSF certified instructor and have taught for programs in several states.
In the last couple years, I've also been a track coach for the awesome annual women's motorcycling event known as Femmoto.
