FAQ Some people have accused me of having an excessive or superfluous webpage. Hmm... why then, is it, that so many visitors write me with questions. It appears that even with all the information about me floating around out there, visitors still want to know more. So I have compiled the questions I get asked the most. g e n e r a l Will you marry me ????? Uh, I'll never understand this concept of proposing to a web persona, but it just happens to be the most F-A-Q, so I figure I should answer it en masse. Although I'm flattered by these requests, I just don't believe in love-at-first-email... sorry! How old are you? You really want to know? Let's just say I race mx vet class. But I still get carded whenever I go out - yessssss! Where have you been all my life? Well, probably in Oregon. :) Or more generally, in the Pathetic NorthWet!! I grew up there, and still love that good old Pacific Northwest mentality. You know, the micro-breweries, Starbucks on every corner, and peaceful eccentrics frolicking in the drizzle. Where are you located?
I finally couldn't take all the drizzle and rain any more - especially once I started riding motorcycles - so I picked up and moved to Sunny Southern California.
It wasn't just the rain, I also wanted to continue working in the motorcycle industry. That's, well, here for the most part, so here I am. I love it down here, motorcycling galore, warm beaches, and 5 convenient airports to take me anywhere in the world. What major are you? And what year? My undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon was a double bachelor's in German and Sociology. I recently finished an MBA in marketing/advertising at Cal State Long Beach. It's fantastic to be using my education professionally. My dream job is to work an international German-speaking company, doing social/market research, advertising, and marketing. What do you do for a living anyway?
See the latest updates on my LinkedIn profile.
What makes you so motivated to do all these things?
All of the activities you read about in my pages, I do them because I enjoy them! I strongly believe that we should maximize our enjoyment out life, and spend as much time as possible doing things I love. Do you speak French?
I speak fluent German, a big help in my chosen career path. I have studied Spanish, Russian and French as well, although I am no where near fluent in any of those. I can get by reading signs and being polite in those languages. To quote the eternal wisdom of Steve Martin, "Oui! Omlette du fromage!" Beer is great but what about wine?
Oh yes, I love drinking wine. Reds to be specific: Merlot, Cabernet, Malbec, Meritage, Zinfandel, but generally no Pinot Noir for me. When I lived in Europe I learned to appreciate wonderful Spanish, Italian, Greek, French... wines you don't find in the U.S. Zum Wohl! Are you a model too?
I have done some action modeling within the powersports industry. You may have seen me in Acerbis catalogs, Suzuki marketing materials, KTM ads, and random ads for companies like Wiseco, Performance Machine, Fox Racing, Two Brother Racing, AMA promotional materials. In most of the modeling I do I'm actually riding so you can't tell it's me. w
e b p a g e I think your page is pretty neat, are you a programmer of did you pay to have it done?
Originally, I wrote my page by myself. Most people are quite impressed to hear that, but it was all very primitive html. And no, I am not a professional computer geek, just a wannabe... The new Super Sarah Online was a joint effort with a fellow rider, Kathryn Hill of Kosmonaut
Arts Production. Now I just work within her framework to update text and photos. So why did you put up a home page? Just because you could? Or do you have a message to the world?
Why not have a web site? Then again I suppose a personal website is passe' in the era of Facebook. Did you know you're page was reviewed by 'Excite'?
Yes. Thank you to all of the people who told me so I was able to check it out. And especially thanks for Excite for featuring me! What an honor! It was also featured in Yahoo Magazine. Or would you like a penpal for some stimulating conversation?
I enjoy corresponding with people on the internet. Especially people with the same interests. However, I just don't have the time to be a good penpal. I like the Sarah home page, but wonder is Sarah real ???
Oh yes, I'm for real! And I'm really out there doing real stuff just like all of you. Keep your eyes open, several people have run into me in the real world and recognized me. If you do, please stop me and say hello - its a small world and it is always exciting to make random connections like that. m o t o r c y c l e Is that your motorcycle?
Uh, no, actually, my boyfriend let me borrow his. He even rode it to all these places to have pictures taken so you would all think that it is really my bike... (major sarcasm) Seriously, you wouldn't believe how often people ask me that. Like at the gas station "you didn't ride that motorcycle here by yourself did you?" geez! Yes, they are all MY motorcycles! :) So was that your black VFR with OR plates at the Torrance Ride for Kids?
YES!! Like I said, keep your eyes peeled, because I'm out there doing motorcycle stuff all the time. Are there any good Honda shops in the area?
Of course! Check out Orange County Honda (714-771-9777) located in the city of Orange. The coolest Honda dealership this side of Torrance. :)
Tell them I sent you and they'll treatcha good. (er, uh, maybe...) They're really great down there at Huntington Honda too (714-842-5531). Ever ride a Harley?
Absolutely! I've ridden several and I loved it. My favorite was my friend's Spankin' new Heritage Softail, lowered for her 5'1 stature. Kind of nervewracking the way it scraped around even the most normal corners, but it was cool and fun nonetheless. Even though people perceive me as a sport bike girl, I'm really not a bike snob.
I like all motorcycles as long as they are mechanically sound. I think it would be fantastic to have a garage full of at least one bike from every style and manufacturer. (sigh) Have you any interest in Speedway (two wheels)?
Yup. once again, keep your eyes peeled. I go to Costa Mesa Speedway now and then. It's a blast! I liked it so much I had to try it myself, and enrolled in Danny Walker's American Supercamp. It's so much fun, definitely try it sometime. Your legs will be sore for weeks afterward, and you'll get run over so many times you'll lose count, but in the process you'll learn how to sliiiiiide and get totally sideways - it is as fun as it looks!
Where do I find a 'Sarah' who loves bikes ??
Keep your eyes open. I'm definitely NOT the only woman out there who loves motorcycles. There are so many women riders out there! (Not to mention women who are dying to learn to ride or even passenger) Unfortunately, we are relatively invisible in the industry as well as to the general public. That motorcyclist on the freeway might be a woman, that bike in the neighbors garage might belong to his sister, and that dirt bike on the trailer might be his female friend's ride. Start looking for us, and you will find us. See you at the Gather? Ahhh, the gather. One of my very favorite events on the motorcycle calendar. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to make it since 1996. What's the Gather you ask? It's the Pacific Northwest's answer to the Joust. For more info, go to the WetLeather website. Are you still riding down here in CA?
Of course! And more than ever, the riding here is so awesome! And there's just so much to do, street riding, desert racing, mountains, motocross tracks in every direction, Baja just 2 hours away, and motorcycle events every single weekend. g e r m a n y What's your Germany connection?
I guess I still haven't gotten around to completing my Germany page, eh??
Well, Here's the story: I'm almost completely German by descent (a bit of Russian thrown in), so in high school I took 2 years of German and then went to study in Deutschland for a year. While there I learned to speak the language fluently. I really enjoyed the people, culture and way of life there. Those crazy Germans... In college I took German as one of my majors. Spent one semester abroad in Hamburg on a work/study program. I spent most of 2007 living in Duesseldorf working at Hein Gericke HQ. Over the years I've maintained close friendships with the people I got to know there and visit as often as possible. So are you still riding in Germany?
Yes! I was lucky enough to borrow motorcycles while I was there and spend weekends and vacations riding around Europe. I have even connected with the German Women On Wheels group and the Women's International Motorcycle Association and have been to a couple big (100+ women) rallies. |
